Luther Hart was born in Goshen, CT on July 27, 1783, the son of David and Hannah Hudson Hart. Prior to his admission to Yale in 1803, he worked with his father as a carpenter. After graduating in 1807, he taught at James Morris' Academy in Litchfield South Farms. In September 1808, he entered the Theological Seminary at Andover and became one of its first graduates.
